Company founder Remo D. Belli was a percussion pioneer. In 1957, he invented the first successful synthetic Mylar® drumheads, which are still the industry standard today. For over 60 years, Remo, Inc. has consistently broken new ground when it comes to industry innovation. As a drumhead manufacturer, Remo continues to set technical and musical standards.
Remo's history began after the Second World War, when experiments were being carried out with Mylar®, a polyester film manufactured by DuPont®. At that time, Mylar® was used during wartime as heat-resistant film for night reconnaissance flights. The exceptionally durable, inexpensive and weather resistant material that provided previously unattainable tuning, tone and consistency intrigued Remo D Belli, an already successful professional drummer. Remo began his legacy with Weatherking® skins, the first commercially successful synthetic skin design.
