Description

The LP484 Shekere afuche has the sound and feel of traditional instruments, with the quality of the most modern materials.

The afuche or shequere is a percussion musical instrument of African origin. Originally it was made from a dry gourd cut at one end and wrapped in a net of beads, producing a sound when shaken and making the beads scrape against the body of the instrument.

The LP484 is a modern version of this instrument, designed by Latin Percussion in collaboration with percussionist Jim Greiner.

The body is made of durable white fiberglass, surrounded by a net of plastic Jenigor beads that give it a sound identical to the original instruments made from a natural gourd. The shekere's mouth also has a rubber ring for added protection.

Jim Greiner is a multi-distinguished and internationally acclaimed percussionist. He pioneered the use of percussion in corporate team building activities, conducting interactive rhythm sessions around the world for companies and community groups.

Jim Greiner has been playing hand drums and percussion instruments since the 1970s, including two years in Africa where he was deeply moved by the power of group percussion to build community, reduce stress and celebrate life with the aim of invigorating and focusing people, through music.

Latin Percussion is an American brand, which emerged in the 60s to fill the lack of Cuban percussion instruments in the United States, due to the trade embargo imposed by Washington on Cuba.

Latin Percussion instruments started to set the pace in the Latin Jazz bands of the time, but quickly were used by musicians in different styles, being today one of the most prestigious brands of percussion instruments in the industry, used by some of the most popular musicians of the last decades.

Whether to add another rhythmic element to your compositions or to celebrate music collectively, the LP484 Shekere Jim Greiner gourd is a choice that will stay with you forever.
