Description

The Artimúsica CV40C is a traditional Portuguese 8-string cavaquinho, manufactured in Portugal.

The variation of the traditional Portuguese 8-string cavaquinho is also known as cavaquinho de tuna, as it is used by these student groups for its bright and full sound that it provides even with few elements in the group.

The top is in spruce and panga panga, which contrast in its two half-tops. The mouth is round, with a simple and very discreet decoration.

The bottom and sides are in solid walnut, cherry or maple wood. The neck is in poplar, and the fretboard is also in panga panga, giving a beautiful effect of continuity from the upper half-board.

The nickel-plated tuning machines guarantee the tuning even in the most intense interpretations and in the streets most exposed to the elements.

The traditional tuning of the cavaquinho is, from the highest to the lowest string, D - B - G - G. In the case of the eight-string cavaquinho, the tuning is doubled. There are still other tunings, in different keys, as in G: D - B - G - D; in A: E - C# - A - E; in C: G -E -C -G; and in C: G - E - C - C.

These variations open up immense possibilities for integrating the cavaquinho as an accompaniment or solo instrument in a tuna, in a traditional music ensemble, or in another musical style.

The cavaquinho is one of the most popular Portuguese chordophones. Used in traditional music, from Minho raids to Madeira viras, it has found space in other musical genres that benefit from its bright and very lively sound. As a tuna instrument, it is highly appreciated for its sound, ease of learning and enormous portability.

Founded in September 1992, Artimúsica is one of the reference brands in the craft construction of traditional Portuguese instruments. It is a family business, which follows the construction method initiated by master Joaquim José Machado over 100 years ago. Nowadays, their descendants manufacture each instrument as if it were a true work of art, making each piece unique and of high quality.

The Artimúsica CV40C cavaquinho is an 8-string cavaquinho to be played by students or other practitioners of traditional Portuguese music, on any occasion.
