FADO, The Best of Traditional is a special edition that brings together many of the greatest Fado hits from the last century and ever. This work includes a brief history of Fado in Portuguese and also in English so it can be understood by the growing number of lovers of this Portuguese art from around the world
It was in the XX century that Fado affirmed it's place in the world and evolved the most, creating the legacy that we see today - established as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
In this CD we can hear a careful selection of Fados performed by unavoidable names like Amália Rodrigues, Hermínia Silva, Alfredo Marceneiro, Maria Teresa de Noronha, Fernando Farinha, Fernanda Maria and many others, never forgetting the great instrumentalists like Martinho dAssunção, Carvalhinho or Fontes Rocha whose school keeps being relevant till today.
This work could also had been an anthology about the best songs that are performed during the nights or in the Fado houses since this are some of the most played fados by young musicians.
This repertoire makes part of the Portuguese collective imaginary thoughts that also affirmed themselves in the world with music that could not be any more Portuguese than this.
We can still discover a little more of the history of this song that has enchanted the world like the origins and evolution through the XIX, XX e XXI centuries.
Now, silence that we are going to sing Fado! (Silêncio que se vai cantar o Fado!)
