In the early 1990s, the music scene began to swarm with new trends. A new fad called "drum circles" began to make the news around the same time that the new Latin sound called "Afro-Cuban" was hitting pop hits with Miami Sound Machine's "Conga". Hand drums became very popular as more people started to adopt the hobby. People wanted to play for health and well-being reasons.
