The founder of the company Agop Tomurcuk, was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1941. Having grown up in the Samatya neighborhood, he followed in the footsteps of his older brothers Oksant and Garbis, starting to work as an apprentice plate smith at the age of 9 at the only dish factory in Turkey.
In 2004, Istanbul opened the company's first office outside of Istanbul in Los Angeles, California, USA with the intention of further improving relationships with artists and drummers and expanding the availability of the brand's cymbals.
