The BD60S bandola by Artimúsica is an original instrument, which spans centuries and traditions, with a versatile sound.
Made in Portugal by Artimúsica, one of the largest traditional chordophone builders in Portugal, the BD60S bandola is a high quality instrument.
The bandola is an eight-stringed chordophone of European origin. It is related to the mandolin, but has a larger case. The pear-shaped body has a glossy finish and simple decor.
The top is in solid linden and the bottom and sides can be in walnut, sycamore or cherry, depending on the model available. The neck of this bandola is in mahogany and the fretboard is in panga panga.
Uses simple tuning machines to tune the eight strings. The bandola is tuned one octave below the mandolin (Mi-Lá-Re-Sol, from treble to bass). As well as being used in traditional Portuguese music, it is also heard in Celtic music, particularly Irish music, where it is known as an octave mandolin.
There are also other types of bandola, which are part of the traditions of South American folklore: the four-string llanera bandola, the eight-string oriental bandola, and the Colombian Andean bandola, with 12 to 18 strings.
Founded in September 1992, Artimúsica is a family business that started with master Joaquim José Machado, over 100 years ago. His descendants follow the construction method they were taught and passed down through generations. Each instrument is unique, a true work of art of high quality and full of tradition.
The Artimúsica BD60S bandola is an instrument for musicians who enjoy traditional European-inspired music, Portuguese folklore or Celtic-inspired music.
