In the 17th century, the small town of Salle, in the Abruzz region of Italy, was considered one of the largest rope manufacturing centers in Europe. Records in the local church reveal that the most important families dedicated to the manufacture of ropes were Berti, Dorazio, Ruffini and Mari.
Established in the 1640s in Salle, the Mari family became one of the suppliers of Amati and Stradivari violin strings in Cremona. During the 18th and 19th centuries the "Casa de Mari" also operated a foundry that manufactured church bells.
Today, E. & O.Mari is still the oldest family company in the world producing strings for musical instruments. E. & O. Mari/La Bella sponsors jazz and rock performance clinics and appearances by professional artists. La Bella supports many guitar festivals and competitions by subsidizing scholarships and prizes.
