Ukulele Banjo APC UKU BJ100 S

The APC UKU BJ100S is completely made of solid koa, has a natural leather top, placed on a metallic top resonance box.

The design is based on the banjo shape, but plays like a ukulele. The tuning is La Mí Dó Sol.

The ukulele descends directly from the Portuguese cavaquinho, taken by Portuguese sailors to the American islands of the Pacific to musically animate the crews on their long voyages. In recent years it has gained some prominence thanks to its adoption by indie bands and some international music stars like Eddie Vedder, George Harrison and Billie Eilish.

The banjo has Asian, African, and Southern European origins, but it has become the quintessential folk instrument in the United States, appearing on cotton plantations as homemade versions of a stringed instrument with a drum-like sounding board. He leapt onto the stage in the early 20th century, defining the sound of ragtime and being part of jazz ensembles of the time.

The UKU BJ100S is manufactured in Portugal by APC. APC was founded in 1976 by António Pinto Carvalho, who descends from a centenary school of luthiers in Porto. The company has about 45 artisans who build different types of traditional Portuguese and other origins chordophones. APC is the largest national company in this field, producing and selling instruments to more than twenty countries.
