The APC SS soprano ukulele is built in Portugal by one of the biggest national string instrument brands. With a body, bottom and sides in solid koa and a fingerboard in black African wood, the Soprano SS ukulele is a simple model, with very good quality and a very affordable price. The koa is a species of acacia native to Hawaii, which gives it an identity and personality very close to the original instruments.

The koa also adds value to the look of the APC SS ukulele and each instrument's unique personality. The natural characteristics of the wood provide a beautiful effect with the grains drawing lines in a natural, very organic pattern on the top and sides.

The soprano format is the smallest of the ukulele formats and the tuning is the traditional Lá4 – Mi4 – Dó4 – Sol4.

The ukulele descends directly from the Portuguese cavaquinho, taken by Portuguese sailors to the American islands of the Pacific to musically animate the crews on their long voyages.

It became a very popular instrument in the first decades of the 20th century, accompanying American soldiers in World War II. Recent years have seen a resurgence in its popularity thanks to its adoption by many indie bands and some international music stars such as Eddie Vedder and George Harrison.

APC was founded in 1976 by António Pinto Carvalho, who descends from a centenary school of luthiers in Porto. The company has about 45 artisans who build different types of traditional Portuguese and other chordophones. APC is the largest national company in this field, producing and selling instruments to more than twenty countries.
