Fado is backed by portuguese guitar, as well as viola. While the Portuguese guitar adorns and fills in the spaces left by the fadista's  voice, the guitar establishes harmony and rhythm under the guitar and voice lines and underlines the bass passages between chords.

The APC CGS308 viola has a classic guitar-like body and is structurally strong so that it can be stringed with steel strings for a more solid and present tone, as required for a fado instrument, given the volume of the Portuguese guitar.

APC has thus created a reliable and durable instrument. The top is in solid spruce, the bottom and sides are in ovangkol.

The fado violar uses steel strings instead of nylon strings - like the classical guitar - so that its tone fits into the portuguese guitar tone, also strung with steel strings, giving the characteristic shine of this genre. The APC CGS308 fado viola is a sober yet distinct looking model that fits well on any ensemble or stage, from fado houses to concerts in larger halls.
