Description

The viola toeira Artimúsica VA60S is a luxury instrument for lovers of Portuguese popular music.

The viola toeira is a wire guitar of small dimensions of 12 strings, distributed in 5 orders in which the first three are double and the others are triple. The tuning of the viola toeira is, from high to low, Mi Si Sol Ré Lá.

Originally from Beira Litoral, the viola toeira was often played by students from Coimbra until it was replaced by the Portuguese guitar in the serenades. It is played in rasgueado, and is as much associated with popular and rural fashions as with the salon music of the bourgeoisie of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Artimúsica has preserved the spirit and history of this traditional instrument with the Artimúsica viola toeira VA60S, a model of great quality, made with care, affection and a lot of knowledge about the original characteristics of the viola toeira.

The narrow body, larger than a cavaquinho but smaller than a guitar, uses solid spruce for the top and solid walnut for the back and sides. The neck is in mahogany and the fingerboard is in panga panga, a very resistant and durable wood.

The viola toeira Artimúsica VA60S has a cross-over oval-shaped mouth, a distinctive element of this instrument. At the junction between the scale and time, there is a small tear and at the bottom a rosette, in a simple and discreet decoration.

Founded in September 1992, Artimúsica is one of the leading brands in the artisanal construction of traditional Portuguese instruments. It is a family business, continued by masters Manuel Carvalho and José Carvalho, who still follow the construction method started by their grandfather, master Joaquim José Machado.

Built with attention to historical detail and sound and musical quality, the Artimúsica VA60S toeira viola is an instrument for anyone interested in keeping the Portuguese musical tradition alive and live.
