This fairly accessible instrument is carved from woods with good sound properties. The top is in solid spruce, the bottom and the sides are in maple, the same wood of which the neck is made.
For the scale was chosen a noble wood, ebonized for a more classic look and greater strength. The tuning pegsa are in rosewood, a noble wood originating in South America. The viola Stentor Student I is finished with a medium brown varnish for a classic and natural look.
The construction quality of the bow was also not neglected, having been designed for students, and made of ebony walnut. The purchase of the viola Stentor Student I also includes a very durable storage and transport case with reflectors for added safety.
The viola emerged in the late 14th century, and was one of the stringed instruments that developed at the time, and which resulted in the violin family. One can say that the viola was the base model of this family, the other members being variants: the violin is a smaller and sounds higher than the viola. Kind of a little brother.
The differences between the two end in size and pitch. The viola is tuned a fifth below the violin (C3 G3 D4 C4). And the timbre is lower, proper of the older brothers.
The Stentor has been linked to stringed instruments since 1895, initially in the import and sale of instruments for orchestra, until it began its own production following the high standards of demand it had with the instruments it resold. Many musicians who today shine in orchestras in the United Kingdom have started their learning on a Stentor.
The Stentor Student series is recognized by teachers and students as a quality choice.
